Pride & Prejudice
Heritage Players
May 8 – 17, 2026
-
by Kate Hamil
This isn't your grandmother's Austen! Bold, surprising, boisterous, and timely, this P&P for a new era explores the absurdities and thrills of finding your perfect (or imperfect) match in life. The outspoken Lizzy Bennet is determined to never marry, despite mounting pressure from society. But can she resist love, especially when that vaguely handsome, mildly amusing, and impossibly aggravating Mr. Darcy keeps popping up at every turn?! Literature's greatest tale of latent love has never felt so theatrical, or so full of life than it does in this effervescent adaptation. Because what turns us into greater fools... than the high-stakes game of love?
Pride & Prejudice is presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc., New York.

Shakespeare’s R&J
Julia Production
May 8-10, 2026
-
Playwright: Joe Calarco
A “vibrant, hot-blooded” (The New York Times) adaptation of Romeo & Juliet comes to the Mainstage, blurring the line between dreams and reality. Shakespeare’s R&J follows four boys living under strict rules, including what they can and cannot read. In an act of defiance and curiosity, they begin to act out the forbidden play, Romeo and Juliet, amongst themselves. What starts as playful experimentation – assigning roles, improvising costumes from school uniforms – quickly becomes something deeper. Through Shakespeare’s language, the boys reveal hidden desires and vulnerabilities among themselves. By the end, the students face a choice: retreat into silence – or take control of their own voices. In a world built on control, Shakespeare’s words become an act of resistance. A reminder that the choice to speak – or stay silent – is one we all face.

Steel Magnolias
Stage 62
May 8-17, 2026
-
Written by Robert Harling; Steel Magnolias is presented by arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, a Concord Theatricals Company. www.dramatists.com
The action is set in Truvy's beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where all the ladies who are "anybody" come to have their hair done. Helped by her eager new assistant, Annelle (who is not sure whether or not she is still married), the outspoken, wise-cracking Truvy dispenses shampoos and free advice to the town's rich curmudgeon, Ouiser, ("I'm not crazy, I've just been in a bad mood for forty years"); an eccentric millionaire, Miss Clairee, who has a raging sweet tooth; and the local social leader, M'Lynn, whose daughter, Shelby (the prettiest girl in town), is about to marry a "good ole boy."
Filled with hilarious repartee and not a few acerbic but humorously revealing verbal collisions, the play moves toward tragedy in the second act, and the characters must draw on the underlying strength—and love—which give the play, and its characters, the special quality to make them truly touching, funny and marvelously amiable company in good times and bad. -

Foolish Assumptions
corningworks
May 14 - 23, 2026
-
FOOLISH ASSUMPTIONS is sparce, subtle, and perhaps one of Corning’s most gentle works to date. But, as always, bold, topical, and timeless— exploring our current climate of uncertainty and increasingly fraught “jumping-to-judgement” times.
The legendary choreographer Hans Van Manen said, “A ballet for one dancer is a solo, a ballet for two dancers – a story.” Corning strips down the stage to 2 performers & 2 chairs, enabling the audience maximum space to construct their own story to what’s transpiring on stage—which ultimately may well have less to do with plot development than point-of-view.
What conclusions are you intuiting? Based on what? Life luggage, opinions? What presumptions? What biases? What assumptions?

"Because it's a given love will hurt you somewhere down the line. It's a question of when, who, and how much"
Refugee Rhapsody, a new play by award-winning playwright Yussef El Guindi—an alumnus of Carnegie Mellon University and the 2025 recipient of the Laurents/Hatcher Foundation Citation of Excellence—will make its world premiere at Carnegie Stage in Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh International Classic Theatre (PICT) has been selected, alongside Artists Repertory Theatre in Portland, Oregon, and the Contemporary American Theater Festival (CATF) in West Virginia, to present the second production in this rolling world premiere. The production is directed by Elizabeth Elias Huffman, Artistic Director of PICT.
About the play
A chance encounter between Emily, a wealthy socialite heiress, and a young Arab American couple, Sakinah and Fouad—children of refugees now working at Goodwill—unfolds into a darkly comic and unsettling exploration of race, class, and privilege in contemporary America. As their lives intersect, tensions escalate, culminating in a violent crime driven by jealousy and desire.
In the aftermath, Sakinah undergoes a psychological evaluation conducted by a pregnant mental health professional working for the defense, whose own marriage is strained by her husband’s objections to her involvement in the high-profile case. As the investigation deepens, questions of culpability and motive take center stage: As the truth unravels one question remains: Why?

By Stephen Schwartz
Working (the 2012 updated version) is based on Studs Terkel’s landmark 1974 oral-history book Working: People Talk About What They Do All Day and How They Feel About What They Do. The original stage adaptation was conceived by Stephen Schwartz, with contributions from a remarkable collection of composers and lyricists. The revised 2012 version includes songs from Lin-Manuel Miranda, James Taylor, Craig Carnelia, Micki Grant, Mary Rodgers, and Susan Birkenhead. This Tony nominated musical weaves together real stories from workers across professions—teachers, steelworkers, waitresses, tech support staff, caregivers, and more. Many stories in the show are relatable to Pittsburgh from mill workers to tech and healthcare workers, and of course waitresses.
